  • 6 tablespoons whole milk
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup pecans (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 10×15 inch baking sheet.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat, then stir in water and cocoa powder; bring to a boil, then cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together sour cream and eggs until smooth.
  4. In a stand mixer bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
  5. Add the sour cream mixture to dry ingredients followed by the cooled chocolate mixture; blend until combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. For frosting, combine milk, cocoa powder, and butter in a saucepan; bring to a boil then remove from heat. Stir in confectioners' sugar and pecans until smooth.
  8. Frost the warm cake immediately after baking.
