  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz red Wilton candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat butter, oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  3. Gradually mix dry ingredients with wet ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
  4. Divide batter into two bowls; mix half with melted chocolate and add black gel coloring to the other.
  5. Alternate pouring batters into prepared pans and swirl gently with a toothpick.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for ten minutes before transferring to a rack.
  7. Decorate cooled cakes with frosting, drizzle red candy melts for a 'blood' effect, and add spooky decorations.
