This hearty dish features tender, slow-cooked chuck roast served over fluffy mashed potatoes and thick slices of bread, all smothered in rich brown gravy. The combination of savory flavors creates a satisfying experience that warms both body and soul.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 22.5 pounds chuck roast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 68 slices thick sandwich bread (white or sourdough)
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 cups brown gravy (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Season the chuck roast with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat olive oil and sear the roast on all sides for about 3–4 minutes per side until browned.
  3. Place the seared roast in the slow cooker and pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours until fork-tender.
  5. Shred the beef using two forks directly in the slow cooker so it absorbs the juices.
  6. To serve, place a slice of bread on each plate, top with mashed potatoes, shredded beef, and ladle warm brown gravy over everything.
