  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter (chilled; 1 1/2 cups)
  • 3 cups cherries (pitted, halved)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 dash sea salt
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 3/4 cup UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Mix in cubed butter until crumbly and reserve 2 cups for topping.
  3. In another bowl, mix cherries with sugar. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk eggs until frothy, then add sour cream, salt, and almond extract. Gradually mix in reserved flour mixture until smooth.
  5. Pour half the batter into the baking pan, layer with cherry filling, then pour remaining batter on top and sprinkle with reserved crumbs.
  6. Bake for about 60 minutes until golden brown and set. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
